Epiphanies & new ink..

  • Sep. 13th, 2009 at 11:55 AM
evolution - royo
I had a small epiphany yesterday morning, which lead to me forgoing a pair of shoes in the UK for the tattoo I've been wanting to get for ages.

Pictures here )

So anyway, there it is, my permanent bracelet. Just need to go back for a few touch ups and to even certain bits out because I'm anal and they aren't matching as well as I want them to. But it's done. I love it.

And yes, I giggled during the bits in the middle of my wrist. Lots. They giggled at me giggling. However it hurts more now, feels like I've got a ring of fire around my wrist. Ouch. The other tattoo's didn't hurt like this afterwards, maybe it's a wrist thing...

But new ink!! *squees lots*

Online journals are little filters that we each see every one else's lives through, the parts others choose to share with us. That said, we all think we are close, but really we seldom know *a lot* about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.
Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you...

Physics hurts mah brain!

Yesterday was a day full of physics. It hurt.

I’m not sure why he thought we should all know it and was surprised by the blank faces staring back at him.

But that’s all good, because it’s holidays next week for a week where I can make my brain hurt without his added stuff to try to get it in.

Urban family BBQ on Saturday was lots of fun though, had missed everyone so much! Even though I didn’t understand what was happening in the football we got to make lots of noise, this made me happy. We left a bit early as Coz had her boot camp thingy at some ungodly hour on Sunday morning. I stayed in bed. Because that’s what you are meant to do on Sunday’s at 6am. Spent Sunday afternoon lazing around with Jules and Shayne, the latter which got very cranky pants at the game on telle whilst Jules and I studiously looked at our articles and tried not to snigger.

I’m typing this through the windows live writer to see how it works, if it means that I don’t have to log in to write then fantastic!

Coz has told me not to plan anything for this Friday. She’s got something planned. Anyone have any ideas what she’s up to? She won’t tell me :(

However it did make me giggle in between reading about the cosmic storms on Titan. Wasn't expecting this as an article!

From: Sydney Roller Derby League
Sent: Wednesday, 18 March, 2009 12:04:57 PM
Subject: ACT: Designs for SRDL's logo

Attention roller dames, dudes & designers!

Sydney Roller Derby League is looking for submissions to rework & streamline the public image of the league, starting with the official league logo. We're giving you two very short weeks with which to dance your digits into a designing frenzy whether it be on a computer, your sketchbook, or the back of a coaster at the pub.

After deadline, the submissions deemed most effective and appropriate will be collated and presented in an anonymous format to the league to vote in their favourite. This logo will then be used to redesign our website and create a busy hub of derby activity for members and interested parties alike. In time, it will ingrain itself as the wholly recognisable symbol of the entire league - whether it be printed on t-shirts, helmet & street stickers, badges, banners, our never-ending stacks of flyers promoting local and interstate events, posters, our online media or quite possibly - the 2010 Mardi Gras Parade SRDL float.

The final chosen logo will become property of SRDL to use unconditionally on any promotional/advertising medium it wishes whether it be commercial or private, & to make minimal changes to said logo, if need be.

ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE EMAILED TO fairuza . hulk @ gmail . com (remember to get rid of the spaces in the email before sending...), NO LATER THAN TUESDAY 31ST MARCH.

NB. While we do prefer the electronic method, if you're quite handy with a pen & are a bit of a luddite, hand-drawn logos can be handed to me at any training session - or to Surly Valentine in my absence.

There are some basic elements we need you to keep in mind when designing, and a bunch of ideas we can give you for how to approach this task, so don't stop reading.

THE DESIGN

- must be relatively simple (this goes for any logo - too much clutter makes for a lack of focus)

- logo must be appropriate for ANY size, whether it be on a huge printed banner or really small on a flyer

- must represent elements of Roller Derby [if you're going to include a graphic in your logo - avoid unnecessary detail & try to make it relevant to the sport]

- can incorporate elements of the current logo [email me at fairuza.hulk@gmail.com for a vectorised or printed copy of the logo to pull apart & play with]

- don't go too nuts with the fonts [pretty/fancy fonts are great for the right application, but our logo needs to be easily legible in all formats whether big or small]

- if you are able, please submit a full colour version and also a monochromatic (single colour) version of your final logo. We'll need both depending on the application.

STARTING OUT

Logo design can be a little daunting - but even the least creative of us can come up with some radical concepts. Here are a few ideas to get you going, before you go jumping the gun.

1. Come up with a list of words to generate imagery & visuals for the logo. Just write 'em down and the ideas will start flowing. Here are a few to push you in the right direction:

tough
blood
femme
retro
burlesque
punk
stars
edgy
speed
agility
skill
fishnets
all girl
bruises
skates
wheels
quads
vintage

2. Sketch on paper. This can be done on the bus on the way to work, while you're falling asleep thinking about being on skates, whilst watching girls bout or train, or when you've simply had a brainwave that you've gotta get down in ink before you forget. Giving your brain some time to create that visual imagery can really help.

3. Start putting together your concepts. Try using text with no graphic, or with very basic relevant graphics.

4. Consider that ROLLER DERBY should be the focal point of your logo. Having all text the same size and font can be kinda boring, so play with the sizes.

5. Don't stop at one! Even if you're happy with what you've got - make a few more. Tweak the best ones & get other people's opinions and initial impressions.

6. Don't do all your design in one sitting. Leave your concepts for a few days and then come back to them. Self explanatory.

Good luck & don't forget,

ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE EMAILED TO fairuza . hulk @ gmail . com (remember to get rid of the spaces between the email!!!), NO LATER THAN TUESDAY 31ST MARCH.

Feel free to pass this info on to your friends & family & buddies at the pub, all non-member submissions are most welcome.

Get to it!

My neck

I've done something to my neck...

I felt it at work yesterday but put it down to a strain of some sort. Guess lifting 15 heavy financial text books is a no no, I think I've thrown something out.

So am at home today unable to move my left arm and can't turn my head due to pain inflicted.

Coz is going to take me to physio once she gets home from work.

Until then I'm crippled.

No more lifting lots of books at a time. 5-10 will be good enough.

Urgh.

Interesting things...

I was depressed today so I drove myself to Burwood and got this cute little thing to keep me company whilst Coz was away.. I have named her Squishy.

Let me tell you it was a horrific process! Apparently Target have some kind of toy sale on. There was no order to anything. In order for me to find this little thing I had to dig through a knee deep pile of plush toys that were piled up on the floor. She was the only one I found under a mountain of pooh bears, horses, penguins, monkey's and a whole heap of other stuff. Hence her name Squishy. I didn't last very long after that. There were too many people. Too many screaming things that even with a dirty look and snarl wouldn't shut up or go away.

So I ran away after I found Squishy to the comfort of home where it's cool, gotta love double brick.

Totally worth the $12 I spent on her. Not so worth the people crush. I was going to look for a cheapie xmas tree, however I think I might do that at the Metro next time with Coz as my shield.

It's the little things really...

Today's one made me smile...

Pisces (19/2-20/3)

The people you love could use a reminder of that fact -- try to show as much affection as you can for them today. Have confidence that your friendships are real and strong, because they are. You are in a very healthy phase in terms of communicating and connecting with others. Others are trying to distract you from your friends, but you know what is important -- never forget that the people who are there for you now will always be there for you.

Got just what the doctor ordered yesterday afternoon.

Especially after I gave myself an hour early mark and sat with beer in garden at Courty and read my book.

It was very nice and I enjoyed it lots.

It was betterer when everyone turned up and I got lots of cuddles.

I shall go out more after next week.

I've decided that my treat to myself is going to be new skates a padding.

Because I'm seriously having issues with not being able to skate. And lots of dreams about flying around on skates.

So it has been decided.

It's my present to myself.

Now to get the money together.

We're broke so we're hiding at home...

However I just had my last smoke, [info]cozinoz is still asleep and I'm playing lots of key quest to starve off the boredom. I am itching to clean, however I have a funny feeling that if I get the vacuum out, stick in the ipod and sing at the top of my lungs in turkish, the chicka (ooohh spanish word!! hehe) is going to get the grumps since her phone hasn't stopped since 7.30am.

The spanish is going well. I started my first one yesterday. Only problem is that I don't have a mic attached to the PC. So I can't do the spoken exercises... Never mind. I got 40/40 for most of them and only on one did I get 39/40. It's fun.

Ummm. Other than that. I got my report done yesterday. Emailed it in. Hope he doesn't hate me for it.

Um. I'm cooking Shayne & Jules lasagne tonight.

Erm. That's about it really.

Maybe I'll boot up the play station...
